The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Smash 'N' Splash 4 was a Smash event held in Lake Delton, Wisconsin on June 1st-3rd, 2018. It featured every single Smash title at that point, as well as Project M; it was a supermajor for the latter event, as well as a major for Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Alongside Smash, the tournament also featured events for Rivals of Aether, Dragon Ball Fighters Z, Splatoon 2 and ARMS. Melee and Smash 4 had a pot bonus of $5,000 for singles and $1,000 for doubles.
The tournament was first hinted at in a tweet by BattleBeaverCustoms.[1] When the tweet hit 1,000 retweets, the Smash 'N' Splash twitter account officially announced the tournament at midnight CST on January 5th, 2018.[2]
Tournament summary[edit]
Super Smash Bros[edit]
Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
After a 11-month drought where he failed to win a single major, the longest drought since he returned from his first hiatus, Armada was able to win his first major tournament since EVO 2017. He did so through Losers, initially falling to Leffen 1-3 in Winners Semi-Final before tearing through the Losers bracket, defeating Zain 3-0, Mew2King 3-1, and Leffen in the runback 3-1, before defeating Hungrybox twice, 3-1 in both sets. This was notably the last event where Armada defeated Leffen, as their final set against each other at EVO 2018 resulted in a victory for Leffen.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]
The Smash 4 event was won by #11 seed VoiD, who won the first major of his tournament career. VoiD first defeated #6 seed Mistake 3-1 and #3 seed Dabuz 3-1 (upset factor 4), his first and only win over Dabuz at a ranked event, in order to make top 8. He then fought a 5-game set against #15 seed Light, which included a reverse 3-0 and coming close to losing the 4th game on multiple occasions, before meeting #5 seed Salem, who had just defeated the #1 seed, MkLeo (upset factor 4). Preventing a reverse 3-0 from Salem, VoiD moved on to Grand Finals, only the second time he had made Grand Finals at a major. He eventually faced off against Salem yet again, Salem having defeated MkLeo again in Losers Finals, and VoiD was able to take the set 3-1. VoiD's victory at the event was the first Sheik major victory since she received nerfs in patch 1.1.6, made him the first non-ZeRo Sheik player to win a major, and was a shining spot in his overall-weak season. In addition, this performance began a small resurgence for Sheik in Smash 4's final year.
Outside of VoiD's run, this event notably featured several players seeded outside the top 8 make top 8: alongside the aforementioned VoiD and Light, #10 seed Elegant, #21 seed Shoyo James, and #34 seed Rags all made top 8. After losing to #7 seed komorikiri 2-3, Elegant was able to claw his way into top 8 by defeating rising star and #25 seed SDX 3-0, #16 seed Ned 3-0, and #13 seed tyroy 3-1, becoming Elegant's first major top 8 since the 2GG Championship. Likewise, Shoyo James defeated #12 seed CaptainZack 3-1 in Winners and komorikiri 3-2 to make his second top 8 of his career. Finally, after falling to Ralphie 0-2 right before top 64, Rags made a long Losers run in the top 64 bracket, where he notably defeated #14 seed Raito 3-2, #18 seed Ally 3-2, and #9 seed Cosmos 3-2 (upset factor 4) to make his first and only major top 8. On the other hand, aside from komorokiri, who placed 9th, and Tweek and Nairo, both of whom DQd, the other top 8 seeds who did not make top 8 were Mistake, who after losing to VoiD lost to Ally 2-3 for 17th; #8 seed Mr.R, who lost to Cosmos and Dabuz for 9th.
Top 8 notoriously featured a 4-minute long set between Rags and Elegant. Elegant only took 6% on the first game, while conversely defeated Rags in less than 30 seconds. Elegant ultimately lost only one stock in the entire set, in the final game.
Project M[edit]
After placing top 8 at every single major he attended since 2016, including placing 2nd at Smash 'N' Splash 2, Low Tier City 4, and Olympus, Lunchables was finally able to win his first major, winning the event after defeating Switch in the reset. As he predominantly used Roy at the tournament, Lunchables' victory became the first time a Roy player has won a major in both Project M and Smash Bros. as a whole.
